Student Testimonial - Jade Lees-Pavey
In the first year of my Bachelor of Fine Art (RMIT) I enrolled in Rie’s ‘Drawing with
Materiality and Space’ workshop. As a mature age student, their class helped me
regain my connection to drawing materials and taught me how one can use these
and space, to construct dynamic compositions and extend beyond the obvious scope
of a single material. Their ability to extend the student through a variety of structured
exercises, helped to broaden my understanding of alternate creative processes and
opened new possibilities that I had not previously considered.
I credit this class as one of the turning points in the direction of my artistic practice, it
shifted how I think about materials and space, and pushed my work toward a more
bold, challenging direction. Rie’s multidisciplinary practice places them in the unique
position of being able to bring a wide-angle perspective to the support that they offer
artists.
