Practice
Rie seeks to poetically articulate collagic and porous relationships between bodies, language, materiality and landscapes/sites in her practice.
She is interested in illuminating unseen and obscured connections gleaned in her reaseach via mixed-media spatial assemblages and installation works.
Utilising abstraction, ambiguous forms and strategies of material arrangement/assemblage, her work aims to communicate a sense of discovery, encounter and an embodied felt charge for the viewer.
Central to her practice is a fascination with impermanence, material change and arrangement.
She is informed by the idea that the world is both text and vibrant interrelated matter, that everything is enmeshed and contingent.
Rie was awarded a PhD from RMIT School of Art in 2022. Recent exhibitions include Commitment to form (scripts) in the Project Space at Linden New Art, August 2025; The body holds itself at The Wandering Room, June 2025; The Vessel and the Path at Assembly Point and Brunswick Temporary, 2023; and her PhD examination exhibition Unseen Equations (Smoke and Mirrors) at Artery Project Space, February 2022. Rie teaches Sculpture and Installation in Visual Arts at RMIT University and is a co-director of Visual Diary in Brunswick.
